Instructions:
1) Copy/Print onto the Papilio Vinyl Film paper using Alps Printers. (Use the regular ribbons)
2) To prevent a paper jam make sure the vinyl film is not bent or warped. Loading
one sheet at a time by hand (pressing FF/Ready) is a way to make sure it loads correctly.
3) When gluing vinyl label to any surface, clean the surface and remove residual grease, soot or dust.
4) It is not recommended (on larger labels) to remove all the back paper before
installing. It’s better to remove the paper from small area at one end first. (something like 1/2" strip)
5) Line up label. When the position looks correct, let the label make contact with the surface on the edge where you removed the back paper.
6) Now bend the label back and carefully remove the rest of the protective back paper, and glue the label down working from the end you glued first, working your
way towards the other end holding that end away from the surface. You can use your finger or sponge and only press down (glue) small area each time to prevent trapping
air bubbles. Do not use excessive pressure when working the label in this way as you will then smudge the Alps ink.
General:
The vinyl is soft. As you glue it at one end and hold it away from the surface at the other end, do not pull on the label as you may stretch the material. If you
trap air bubbles you cannot work out, make small holes using small sharp object like razor blade or hobby/utility knife. Letting the air out in this way may
leave almost no marks at all. Always handle the vinyl gently before and after printing as rough handling can stretch the material and/or easily leave crumple marks.
Final touch: If the label is used on the outside of an automobile, you may want to give it a light coat of fixative or clear coat to protect the Alps ink. You can
spray the label before you apply it (after printing) to prevent over spray. Check for spray compatibility with the Alps ink first.
We recommend Fixative from Grumbacher (the workable fixative) You can buy a can in your local arts and craft store.
For even better (permanent) results our overlaminate sheets can be used to seal and protect the Alps ink. The overlaminate can also be used for and is ideal for
floor graphics.
Fixative spray is available in most craft stores or you can use clear automobile finish spray sold in most automotive parts stores.
Tip:
If you ever tear your ribbons, you can fix them by opening the cartridge using a screwdriver. Discard a few feet of the ribbon. Using scotch tape, tape the ribbon
ends together. Observe how the ribbon is threaded; make sure it is not twisted and snap the cassette back together.
